About Us
Over 100 Years of Family Tradition
Our Story
Balmoral Chippy started life as a traditional café & chip shop over 100 years ago, by my great Aunty Nancy & Rolando Toni. Soon after they adopted my grandfather, Bruno Toni, he continued to develop the business and added an ice cream factory shortly after the second world war.
It was then handed down to my parents Loris & Benita Pagani, who continued to build upon the family legacy, maintaining the high standards and traditions that had been established over the decades.
In 1978 I, Riccardo Pagani, started working for my parents and to this day continue to do so with my wife Jill. Together we have dedicated our lives to serving the community of Dumfries with the finest traditional fish and chips and Italian-style ice cream.
Rebuilding After the Fire
In June 2021 we suffered a devastating fire which forced our closure for 14 months. It was a difficult time for our family and our loyal customers, but we were determined to come back stronger than ever.
Now WE ARE BACK with a brand new state of the art shop with the latest British Built Frying Range from Mallinsons of Oldham, ensuring that every piece of fish is cooked to perfection. Our commitment to quality remains as strong as ever, and we're proud to continue serving our community.
Our Heritage
Four generations of family tradition, starting with Aunty Nancy & Rolando Toni over 100 years ago. Each generation has added their own touch while preserving the core values of quality, freshness, and community service.
Italian Ice Cream
Following World War II, we established our own ice cream factory, bringing authentic Italian-style ice cream to Dumfries. Today we proudly serve 16 delicious flavours, all made using traditional Italian methods.
